Below is a description of the Wounded Warrior Program:

Wounded Soldiers deserve the very best the Army can provide. The Army has placed the highest priority on supporting Soldiers after their injuries. The Army Wounded Warrior Program - AW2 - embodies the Warrior Ethos "I Will Never Leave a Fallen Comrade." AW2 has assisted over 1200 severely injured Soldiers and their families. It is staffed with Finance, VA, HR, Medical, and Employment Specialists to improve policy; quickly resolve financial issues; work with employers to provide meaningful employment; and help Soldiers remain on Active Duty or make a seamless transition to civilian life. AW2 also employs Soldier Family Management Specialists who are in regular contact with severely injured Soldiers and their families, ascertaining their needs and helping them with whatever problems and obstacles that may arise. AW2 will track severely wounded Soldiers for a minimum of five years beyond medical retirement to insure they will not be left behind.

AW2's goal is to help all severely injured Soldiers successfully assimilate into their communities and make sure they are afforded employment opportunities if they so desire. Transition must be viewed holistically and does not solely consist of employment. Getting a job or pursuing a career is one piece in the transition puzzle that also includes education and training, medical treatment, finance, and housing among others. Transition assistance must be comprehensive - bringing together all service providers to deliver a complete assistance package.

We would like assist communities and organizations in the greater Kansas City area with building pilot programs that would place AW2 Soldiers or family members with businesses that are committed to accommodation assistance and career counseling progression/coaching for at least two years.
