Update on the Light Rail Initiative

UPDATE ON LIGHT RAIL – Councilman Ford

Councilman Ed Ford has been elected to the City Council to serve the 2nd District at large. Mayor Mark Funkhouser appointed Councilman Ford to chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Councilman Ford will oversee the implementation of City policies that affect the public infrastructure, public facilities, transportation, and aviation-related issues. His experience on the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority will guide him with the implementation of the light rail system that voters approved. Councilman Ford currently serves on the Board of Directors for the EDC, Downtown Council and MARC. He co-chairs the MARC Total Transportation Committee and serves on the Transportation Committee of the Platte County EDC, the Clay County EDC Legislative committee, the Plans and Zoning Committee of the Northland Regional Chamber. In addition, he is on the Executive Committee of the Downtown Council. Councilman Ford brings with him a wealth of knowledge gained from previously serving two consecutive terms as the 1st District at large councilman from 1995-2003 under Mayor Cleaver and Mayor Barnes. During his previous tenure, Councilman Ford was chairman of the Plans, Zoning and Economic Development Committee and also served on the Finance, Neighborhoods, and Legislative and Ethics Committees.

 

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI’S ALTERNATAIVE FUEL PROGRAM

Sam received the 2007 Oxygen Award, a national award presented by the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute to individuals for taking concrete steps to improve air quality through the use of alternative transportation fuels. In 2007 the City of Kansas City was ranked by SustainLane as the number three city in the country for the use of alternative fuels, which they have been utilizing since 1996. Sam will be giving a brief history and update on the city's alternative fuel program and give a fleet managers view of the current fuel situation.
