The Revitalization of Kansas City Series is a monthly series of programs intended to build and maintain momentum toward a healthy and vibrant urban core by engaging the public in issues facing downtown Kansas City. The Greater Kansas City Chamber has partnered with The Central Exchange in support of this series.
Bill Dietrich, President and CEO of the Downtown Council of Kansas City, Missouri, will discuss the Council's past accomplishments and plans for 2007. The Downtown Council has become the "go to" voice of downtown Kansas City working to create a vibrant and economically healthy downtown through information and advocacy. Since 1981, the private, nonprofit membership organization has helped shape city policy, inspired housing and commercial development and helped plan for intelligent land use. Today, Council members are influential in many activities including: the new Central Library; Missouri River Bridge Beautification program; Broadway Corridor Enhancement program; downtown property management, housing and capital programs such as GO Bond, way finding signage and streetscaping. With underwriting from members, the Council has established a soon-to-become self-sustaining Downtown Marketing Group that will organize support for downtown events, including Avenue of the Arts, Celebration at the Station, Riverfest and Oktoberfest.
