Networking is the lifeline to knowing your customer. Building a customer base of people that know you and your work will bring sales to your door. Word of mouth about your product is rewarding to a sales person. People in general, are comfortable with doing business with people they know. Come out of your comfort zone and interact with strangers while building business relationships.
