In announcing his appointment on January 18, Governor Matt Blunt said Steinhoff had the right kind of experience to meet his administration's goal of creating good family supporting jobs in all areas of Missouri.
Among the economic initiatives Steinhoff has discussed since taking office:
- A formula-based cash rebate program for companies that bring jobs to Missouri, based on how many jobs the company brings and what wages are paid for those jobs;
- Giving local governments the authority to pass a sales tax for local economic development initiatives; and
- An internal review of state tax credits programs, including the criteria to receive credits and whether they are providing their intended benefits.
