Global Future International Education Program!

Global Future was created in 2002 and was a collaboration between the World Trade Center and Park University. Participating universities also include Johnson County Community College, University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC), Kansas University (KU), University of St.Mary, William Jewell College, Benedictine College, and Rockhurst University. Global Future has conducted 36 sessions offering valuable information/knowledge to approximately 80 students in the past three years. Students, chosen by the faculty advisors or professor recommendation meet monthly to learn from international business professionals/executives.

Past keynote presenters to the Global Future sessions have included business executives from: RSM McGladrey, Commerce Bank, Jewell Inc. Armada, Hallmark, Bayer, Leawood Export Finance, Axiom Technologies, First National Bank, AMC Theatres, S&M NuTec, Shughart Thomson & Kilroy.

Global future has been designed with the objectives:

  • To provide an understanding of international business through interaction  with international business leaders and class projects and discussions
  • To provide educational opportunities on business culture
  • To provide networking opportunities for students

Participants of the Program:

  • International students who want to learn about the U.S. and business culture
  • U.S. students who want to learn about other countries, their culture, and how they conduct business
  • Business presenters who want to interact with the educational and international
    community

Deliverables:

  • Business connections to student participants
  • Networking opportunities among program participants
  • Exposure to the Kansas City business and industry
  • Possibility of opportunities to work on an ongoing project

Program Eligibility:

  • Student must have completed a minimum of 25 college hours
  • Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Students must be selected and monitored by the coordinator at each participating school

Interested students may join Global Future Education Program by attending any of the following sessions.

Fall Semester 2005 - Three Sessions

Session One - October 10, 2005 - Program Introduction & International Business

  • What differentiates Global Business from Domestic Business
  • Kansas City Industry overview - Healthcare, Transportation, Finance, Marketing and Advertising, Technology, Manufacturing, & Agri-business
  • Cultural dimensions of International Business

Session Two - November 7, 2005 - Global Competition in International Business

  • Impact of Globalization and International Markets
  • Economic and Political Realities
  • Issues and Controversies Surrounding International Business

Session Three - December 5, 2005 - Preparing for Global Business Careers

  • Academic Presenter - What Knowledge Should Be Acquired in College?
  • Cultural Preparation - What Can Be Learned about Your Own Culture and Other Cultures?
  • Emotional Preparation - What Personality Traits Lead to Success in International Business?

Spring Semester 2006 - Four Sessions

Session One - January 30, 2006 - Personal Plan and Resume Development

  • Develop a Personal Plan
  • Develop your Resume and How to Present Yourself
  • HR and Recruiting Representatives
  • Discuss Final Retreat

Session Two - February 6, 2006 - Exploring Kansas City's Logistics Industry Technology

  • Introduction of the Issues Involved in Logistics
  • Exploration of Career Paths in Logistics Industry (Technology)

Session Three - March 20, 2006 - Exploring Marketing Campaigns for Global 
                                                              Brands & Advertising

  • Discussion of the Issues Involved in Marketing Internationally
  • Exploration of Career Paths in Marketing

Session Four - April 3, 2006 - Retreat (Graduation & Reception) at Park University College of Distance Learning
