International Trade
This task force should focus on the role that the Kansas City metropolitan area plays in International Trade. Specifically addressing the potential for Kansas City to be the first International Railroad Port not located on a shipping route, the role that the recently passed CAFTA will play on the KC economy. Also, the role that Kansas City Southern's purchase of the largest Mexican railroad will play in making Kansas City more viable as an International Trade partner. In addition, the task force could identify and discuss the largest players in Kansas City who already deal with International Trade either with imports and/or exports. As the global economy continues to evolve, what is Kansas City doing to ensure its market share? Finally, do Richards Gebaur, KCI, downtown airport, and New Century Air Center have additional needs to handle international trade?
