The Environmental Protection Agency has designated the Kansas City region in attainment for 2004, under the new eight-hour federal standards for ground-level ozone. However, substantial air quality problems continue to challenge our area, and the region is still in jeopardy of being declared in non-attainment in 2005 if progress is not made. Worsening air quality will present significant economic development and public health problems for the metro region and will increase the cost of doing business in the region.
To address this issue, we are seeking private sector leaders on behalf of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce who would be interested in working in partnership with other area stakeholders. This process will be initiated to assess the problem, to explore options and possible solutions, and ultimately, to develop consensus and commitments to implement specific strategies that will help keep the air clean in the Kansas City metro area.
Participation, engagement, and leadership in this initiative by you or others within your organization will invariably help sustain our region's economy and environment. If you are interested in participating or learning more about this effort, please contact Christine Murray at 816.374.5413 or murray@kcchamber.com with any additional questions.
